The UPLB Center for Agri-Fisheries and Biosystems Mechanization (UPLB-BIOMECH) strengthens coordination with the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) Aquaculture Department in Tigbauan, Iloilo last November 16, 2023. During the visit, the discussions were focused regarding the ongoing DOST-PCAARRD-funded project “Compendium of Developed Agricultural and Fisheries Mechanization Technologies in the Philippines” in support of the AFMech Law of 2013.
The team was welcomed by Dr. Edgar Amar of the Training and Information Division, Engr. Hermoso Jr. Igcasan of the Engineering Section, Mr. Marwin dela Cruz and Ms. Marinelle Espino of the Technology Verification and Extension Division. Discussions between the teams provided new insights with the existing, developed, and localized fishery technologies by SEAFDEC.
During the discourse, it was emphasized that some technologies developed by their institution are developed with the main reason of improving their current system and increasing the yield of their hatcheries. This passion led to experiments and tests that produced optimal technologies in line with the vision of their institution.
The success of the project will altogether take part in the increase in productivity of the agri-fisheries sector and streamline the efficiency of agri-fisheries production activities.
