On March 20, 2024, the UPLB-BIOMECH team visited Misamis University, a private university in the Philippines that offers the BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering program, in Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental. The purpose of their visit was to discuss the “Compendium” project, which is funded by DOST-PCAARD. They also engaged in discussions regarding the MOU and AFMECH RDE Agenda.
Engr Ronnie C. Valencia (Engineer II) and Engr. John Paul Tobias (Project Technical Assistant III), both from UPLB-BIOMECH led the discussion. Dr. Cynthia S. Superable (Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate School) and Dr. Lloyd B. Ranises (Officer-in-Charge for Linkages and Networking) represented MU along with Dr. Mildred M. Garcia (Dean), Engr. Bernie Agustin, Engr. Maria Shaira P. Tubigon, Engr. Maria Carina L. Maagad, and Engr. Marlon P. Mercado from the College of Agriculture and Forestry participated in the discussion.
During a discussion, the compendium was presented as a catalog of developed machinery in agri-fisheries across different parts of the country. The catalog includes contributions from various organizations such as higher education institutions (HEIs), research and development institutes (RDI’s), and private agencies. The compendium aims to promote technology and avoid duplication of research efforts. Additionally, the importance of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) was explained. This MOU will help facilitate communication between UPLB and MU in any future collaborations. The AFMECH RDE agenda, which was presented in November 2023, was also discussed. The agenda outlines research areas and encourages organizations to propose projects aligned with their interests and help them get endorsed to funding agencies
