On November 23, 2023, representatives from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Center for Agri-Fisheries and Biosystems Mechanization (BIOMECH), visited Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Batac, Ilocos Norte to discuss the DOST-PCAARRD-funded project titled “Compendium of Developed Agricultural and Fisheries Mechanization Technologies in the Philippines’’.

The Ilocos region is a leading contributor to the national production of high-value crops. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Northern Philippines play a pivotal role in consistently advancing technologies that support the objectives of the National Agricultural and Biosystems Mechanization Program of the AFMech Law.

The meeting, held at the MMSU Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, was led by Engr. Yara Ayman A. El Adawi and Engr. John Paul G. Tobias, both serving as Project Technical Assistants. Engr. Reynold M. Caoili, BS ABE Department Chair, and Engr. Roxanne Joy R. Opelac, ABE Faculty, was also in attendance.

The discussion aimed to clearly explain the project’s outcome, presenting a catalog of agri-fishery mechanization published and distributed as a compendium to various technological sources. Emphasis was placed on promoting these technologies and exploring potential collaborations with other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Another goal was to invite a school representative to the consultative meeting, which went well and was successful.
