On February 8, 2024, Engr. Marck Ferdie V. Eusebio, University Research Specialist I, took the lead as the UPLB-BIOMECH team, accompanied by Engr. Yara Ayman A. El Adawi, Project Technical Assistant III, visited the University of Science and Technology in Claveria. The purpose of this visit was to dive into discussions about the ongoing UPLB-BIOMECH project with DOST PCAARRD, specifically focusing on the Compendium of Developed Agricultural and Fisheries Mechanization Technologies in the Philippines.

Representatives from USTP included Allen Rhay B. Bayantong, Assistant Dean; Grace Vergie P. Nillama, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) Department Head; Liwayway V. Delos Santos, Instructor I; Edriel Jim T. Ello, Instructor I; and Maricar M. Figueroa, Instructor I.

During the meeting, the team discussed the project’s primary goal of promoting agricultural and fisheries technologies developed by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Research and Development Institutes (RDIs), and local manufacturers, as mandated by the AFMech Law. Emphasizing HEIs as the main contributors, the team highlighted the potential for the university to engage in collaborations with both HEIs and local manufacturers seeking specific technologies available within the university. This collaborative approach aims to prevent technology duplication and pave way for more innovative ideas.

Expanding the discussion to the recently concluded National HEI Consultative Meeting in Angeles Pampanga, the UPLB-BIOMECH team actively encouraged the University of Science and Technology to contribute to researchable areas aligned with their preferences. This proactive involvement is intended to foster collaboration not only with other HEIs but also with potential funding agencies.
