On December 14, 2023, a team from UPLB-BIOMECH went to Region V, Bicol Region to discuss the project – Compendium of Developed Agricultural and Fisheries Mechanization Technologies in the Philippines, and the rollout of Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Agenda for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) with Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering program. The team visited Camarines Norte State College – Labo Campus and Central Bicol State University of Agriculture Pili.
The UPLB-BIOMECH was led by Dr. Ronel S. Pangan (Director), together with Engr. Ezra Ryza R. Noel (Project Technical Assistant V) and Engr. Yara Ayman A. El Adawi (Project Technical Assistant III). They were joined by Ricardo D. Diño (Campus Director), Sherwin R. Reyes (ABE Chairperson), and Ariel Balean (ABE Faculty) of CNSC – Labo Campus. In CBSUA Pili, attendees were Karen Mae R. Lim (Dean, College of Engineering and Food Science) and Lynet C. Alto (Chairperson, Department of ABE).
The team discussed the Compendium Project which aims to collect developed agricultural and fisheries technologies developed by universities, research institutes, and local manufacturers. This project will allow promotions of the technologies, open opportunities for collaborations to innovate technologies that are existing, and help avoid numerous duplicates of technologies to save resources. The project also includes an online database that can be accessed by the focal person of each HEI and can be updated with new technologies.
Furthermore, with the recently conducted HEI Consultative Meeting in Angeles, Pampanga, hosted by PHilMech, the team also talked about the RDE Agenda. HEIs are encouraged to choose a researchable area that they will be venturing in or they can collaborate with other HEIs with the research that they are interested in. They will be submitting proposals that PHilMech and UPLB-BIOMECH will endorse to funding agencies.
